This site counts visits, and you can turn that off.
What is collected, what is not, and how to change your answer.
1.0What is collected
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. It records which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are (country and city, from the network address, which Google does not store), the device and browser type, and how a visitor arrived, such as from a search or a link.
Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ZD358V7MDJ in your browser to tell one visit from the next. The data is used only to see which pages get read.
If you send a message through the contact or speaking-inquiry form, the site collects what you enter: your name, email address and organization, your message, and, for a speaking inquiry, the event details you provide. It is sent by email to Cyrus Walker and Data Defenders, LLC, and used only to reply to you.
Videos on the site are embedded from YouTube and Vimeo. When a page with a video loads, or you play one, YouTube or Vimeo may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
2.0What is not
If you choose Turn off in the banner, Google Analytics stops for this browser and sets no new cookies. It does not change the YouTube or Vimeo players, which follow their own settings.
The site has no accounts and no advertising. Nothing is sold, shared for advertising, or used to build a profile of you.
3.0Your choice
For visitors in the European Union, the wider European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics stays off. Google works out that region from the visit itself; this site never sees or stores your location.
The banner appears on your first visit, and your browser remembers your choice. Choosing Turn off sends one last, anonymous count that analytics was turned off, and then analytics stops. In those regions, the banner offers Allow instead, which turns analytics on for this browser. To change your choice, clear this site’s stored data in your browser settings, and the banner appears again on your next visit. You can also block it with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
4.0Who handles it
Google processes the analytics data under its own privacy policy, at policies.google.com/privacy. The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts, which also sees the network address of each visit.
The site is hosted on Microsoft Azure, whose servers keep standard technical logs. Form messages are delivered by email through Twilio SendGrid. Embedded videos are served by YouTube (Google) and Vimeo, under their own policies.
